Simply follow these 3 steps to set the correct bearing to navigate to your destination:

STEP 1
Place your compass on the map and align the direction lines on the baseplate with your direction of travel. Make sure direction-of-travel arrow points towards your destination.

STEP 2
Turn the compass capsule until the red arrow is parallel with the north/south lines on the map.  Make sure the red end of the needle points to north on the map (top of the map).

STEP 3
Lift your compass from the map and hold it horizontally in your hand. Turn yourself and the compass until the red end of the needle is aligned with the north arrow in the capsule. Now the direction-of-travel-arrow on the baseplate will point towards your destination. Line up a landmark and start moving towards your destination.

Please note:  Avoid carrying or store compasses near electronic or metal items, or in extreme hot or cold temperatures. Inappropriate use and storage may cause the needle to reverse polarity or lose magnetism, or for the capsule to develop a bubble or leak.
